August in the Ozarks - The Dog Days of Summer

I've lived in the Ozarks since the summer of 1998 and I can't remember a muggier (is that a word?) August than this one. Hot flashes aside, this whole summer has been much warmer than usual. There's just nothing like having your make-up melt off your face mere hours after application. It would be great if business casual dress included a face free of foundation and blush, but that revolution hasn't happened yet!

Having said that, I still love living in the Ozarks - in fact, we are less than a month away from the long Fall I yearn for every August. Crisp apples, cool breezes and the blazing colors of leaves on deciduous trees - I can almost feel it now ...

For those who are interested, home sales in the area are still strong and though we had been heading right into a Seller's market the tables have turned and it's the Buyers that are getting a bit more than expected this summer.  Fortunately, the housing market in the Ozarks (greater Springfield, MO area) is not suffering the highs and lows of the coastal United States. Unfortunately, the news is full of stories about crashing home markets - and home valuation is always affected by "perception." Alas, we are not immune to the news ...
